Changing of the guard

by General Manager on October 18, 2016

As you know, our founding manager/buyer, Craig Waters, asked for his role to be reduced to part-time at the beginning of 2016 in anticipation of retiring. In the months that have passed since then, he has primarily focused on his role as buyer, while Terry Reed, our operations manager, has overseen the Store’s day-to-day operations.

Craig has now elected to retire as of the end of the year and, accordingly, we are initiating the search for a new buyer who will have big shoes to fill: Craig was on board from the beginning — six months before the Store opened — and played a huge role in defining our brand and establishing strong supplier relationships. We are very grateful to Craig for his exceptional dedication and steadfast commitment to the Store’s success.

If you know of anyone who might be interested, please let us know. The job will be a part-time, salaried position.

Book Signing – Thursday July 28th, 3pm-6pm

by General Manager on July 27, 2016

Linda Smolarek, author of “Adirondack Audacity,” will sign her books from 3 pm-6pm, Thursday July 28th at The Community Store in Saranac Lake.

A self-described naturalist and aficionado of the Adirondack Mountains, Smolarek’s first novel “Adirondack Audacity,” is a lighthearted celebration of the history, scenery and beauty of what some affectionately call the North County.

Set in the heart of the mountains, Adirondack Audacity weaves romance, humor, and drama into the laugh out loud tale of Ellen McCauley. From hiking boots to high heels, Ellen’s misguided adventures begin as a nature counselor at Camp High Point and follow a trail to the star studded coast of California. Spanning the decades Adirondack Audacity crisscrosses the country on a hilarious journey, coming back full circle to the mountains in search of love.

Adirondack Audacity is the first of three books in the “Audacity” series. The second book, “Audacity on the Water” is due out in the fall, a humorous tale of competition on the Adirondack Canoe Classic.

Smolarek, a lifelong resident of Western New York, got her start in writing by freelancing for family and nature magazines
