Believing, Investing
in Saranac Lake
Posted on: Wednesday, July 25, 2007
The usual, knee-jerk reaction when someone has a new idea is to play
the devil’s advocate and give reasons why it won't work. However, when
it comes to the proposed Saranac Lake Community Store, we think it is a
good idea, and with the right attitude we believe it can work very
well.
We are not saying we agree with it being the answer to a Wal-Mart. On
the contrary, we think it is an answer to controlling our own destiny
by having an influence on what merchandise is needed and how it is
marketed. Many of the bare necessities we have been asking for since
the Ames department store closed can now be found as businesses have
tried to fill the demands. However, there is still room for more items
and more competition to be offered.
Will the Community Store have reasonable prices to keep its customers
from spending time and gas money to shop out of town? Will the
Community Store have the variety consumers want? Will it have the feel
of the creaking floors of a quaint general store, or will it have the
bright, colorful and sophisticated design of a franchise store — or
does that matter?
These all depend on us investing in the community. We can let them know
what we need, and they can hopefully react rapidly to the requests.
If you believe in Saranac Lake, you need to invest in it. We believe
business begets business and the Community Store will help energize
Saranac Lake.
Therefore, we encourage you to put your money where your mouth is and
purchase shares in the Community Store. They are just $100 each and can
be purchased at the store’s new office above the HomeEnergy building on
Depot Street. It will be open from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, 11 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. Wednesday and 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
