The Community Store Project of Saranac
Lake, New York
***THE ORANGE
SOLUTION***
This is
not some guy from India writing you about a long lost inheritance…This
is from Saranac Lake, so read on…
OKAY FOLKS…THE RIBBONS ARE OUT AND ABOUT…
Put up an orange ribbon of your own or you can find them at Major
Plowshares and Books and Baskets in Saranac Lake. (They will be
available in more places soon)…just ask for an orange ribbon or two. No
cost or you can give a donation if you want to. So read on, get a
ribbon and pass the message on to others.
Orange is appearing everywhere.
Read on to know why:
THE
ORANGE
RIBBON SOLUTION

This
idea arose from a “late afternoon rocking on the front porch”
discussion. The conversation centered on the sometimes cruel statements
that have been tossed around regarding the BIG BOX STORE in Saranac
Lake issue and how to rise above the “trench warfare”. It was during
the “Front Porch” discussion that several people came to a solution:
THE
ORANGE
RIBBON SOLUTION
The
ORANGE
RIBBON
means
COMMUNITY
FIRST…without a BIG BOX STORE
This is not an organization…it is a movement.
While we all may see this issue from a different perspective…simply
indifferent to the store but want it smaller, pro retail size
cap, pro community store, anti Big Box, …we all shared two
similar core beliefs:
We believe in (one)
COMMUNITY FIRST…Without
a (two) BIG BOX STORE
We are urging people to pick up an
ORANGE RIBBON
5’ long.
Hang the ribbon on your mailbox, building, tree, your car antenna, out
your window, etc.
Put lots of ribbon to express a greater emotion. Give ribbons to your
friends.
Why you choose to hang the
ORANGE RIBBON
is Self Determining … Whether you are anti Big Box, pro size cap, pro
community department store…SAGA, SSL, CDS…or indifferent…it doesn’t
matter. This is a SYMBOL to the Village and Town Boards, as well as to
the community as a whole...without having to say anything, that we have
a unified goal of COMMUNITY PEOPLE dedicated to a COMMUNITY
without a BIG BOX STORE.
